Rick Barnes is an established speaker, author, business coach and leadership trainer. He was elected to the Keller City Council in May 2014 and served as Mayor Pro Tem.
A native Texan, Rick was born in Fort Worth and adopted as a “Gladney Baby.” Raised in West Texas by educators, he received his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a master’s from Texas Christian University.
Rick and his wife, Sheila, got their start with politics through the Young Republicans at Texas Tech during the Reagan/Bush race for the White House in 1984. They remain committed conservatives to this day.
Upon graduation from TCU, he worked at Clemson University in South Carolina before returning home to TCU, for a total of 17 years as an administrator in the Division of Student Affairs at the two universities.
Rick is a recognized leader in the field of higher education, and has served in numerous leadership capacities within fourteen nonprofit associations and one for-profit Association Management Group specializing management services to other non-profits.
He has been a professional speaker/consultant for the past 17 years, establishing Rick Barnes Presents, Inc. in 2006, and continues to serve as an entrepreneur in the speaking and consulting business.
Today Rick is an agent with Legacy Insurance in the DFW market, an independent insurance agency serving clients throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado.
Rick and Sheila Barnes celebrated 30 years of marriage in 2018. In 2003 they built their home in Keller, where he recently served as president of the Cherry Grove Homeowners Association Board of Directors.
